Nicolas Akgazciyan leaves Point-7 to join Challenger Sails for 2016

Nicolas Akgazciyan (99NoveNove / Challenger Sails / AL360 / Maui Ultra Fins) enjoyed an excellent 2015 season with the Frenchman ranking 4th overall on the PWA Freestyle World Tour. Akgazciyan earned a podium finish in Fuerteventura, where he finished 3rd, while also becoming the first sailor to land a shifty in competition. However, after a successful year the 30 year old has decided that it’s time for a new challenge and that sees him heading to Challenger Sails after 4 prosperous years with Point-7.

Nicolas Akgazciyan had this to say upon joining Challenger Sails: “I officially announce my new cooperation with Challenger Sails for the upcoming new season. I'm very happy concerning this new adventure and future projects with the team.

I chose to change because I think it was the time for me to see new horizons and discover something else in my career. My aim is to keep my motivation growing and to share my knowledge with CHS. I know Claudio Badiali (owner and sail maker of Challenger Sails) since a few years back and I was pleased working with him in the past whilst in cooperation with my sails sponsor when he was designing sails for them.

I visited the Challenger loft in Senigallia last week to design a new freestyle model and to start giving my first feedback on wave sails that were just tested in my last trip to Tenerife. It was interesting to observe his working methods and technical vision by joining together our ideas and points of view.

This year I will fully focus on the PWA Freestyle Tour aiming for the PWA Podium and if my calendar allows I will also participate in some wave events. I will participate also in the Paris Indoor this April together with all the windsurfing legends, it's gonna be awesome!

Challenges are on!”

Claudio Badiali on signing Nicolas Akgazciyan: “Myself and the entire company are proud and excited to announce that Nico Akgazciyan will compete on Challenger Sails for the next season.

I know Nico well and his good freestyle and wave attitude. He is very professional and I’m sure his advice will support a lot the next generation of CHS sail designs. We have already started working on the new freestyle model.

Personally I can’t wait to see Nico in the first PWA event with the new Challenger Sails and of course in the legendary Indoor de France.

For 2016 we have a fresh and new CHS team and they all bring lot of positive energy!

Welcome to the Challenger Sails family Nico!”
