Tenerife PWA World Cup

Day 6: Lay day after 5 days of scintillating competition

After an epic 5 day of competition today saw a lay day in Tenerife with the sailors taking a well deserved break as they prepare for the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge Super Session at Siam Park tomorrow evening. After a quiet a relaxing day here’s a few thoughts from the sailors:

Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / NorthSails / MFC / Shamal Sunglasses): “I’m super happy. The conditions were really hard — especially in the opening heat yesterday when I was a bit overpowered on my 4.5m. For the Super Final I changed down to 4.2m, which was perfect and allowed me to go vertical again with my wave riding. It’s quite difficult to tell how windy it is here, maybe with the Calima, so it’s deceptively windy. Overall I’m super stoked with the start to the season and I can’t quite believe it. Now I’m looking forward to the next event in Denmark and I hope we get conditions there as well. Thank you all for your support and congratulations to all for the great level of this week.”

Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins): “Yesterday was super fun, but the waves were a little bit different. In the Super Final I managed to land to good jumps straight away, but I couldn’t find my waves today and I didn’t find what I needed until super late on. With 5 minutes left I knew I still needed two waves and thankfully I was able to find them. When I came back to the beach I didn’t know if I’d won or not because you never know what Daida has done. Super happy and it was a great event.

Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC): “Stoked to make the finals in Tenerife. Congratulations to Victor Fernandez  , Philip Köster and also to all the other sailors.“

Event Organiser Dany Bruch (Starboard / Flight Sails / AL360 / Shamal Sunglasses): “Contest at home is done...finished 7th..not what I was looking for again, but I sailed good and gave it all!! So I am happy about it…"

Amanda Beenen (99NoveNove / Point-7): ”Happy to have managed to work my way up to 5th place. It's been a nerve wrecking and crazy event for me this year and I feel I haven't been sailing as I should have, but that being said, I am quite happy with my final heat against SQ who stopped me there and then. I know what I need to work on for next years event here and for now I will look forward to the upcoming events in Germany, France and Maui! Great sailing from all the girls! It's been such a pleasure hanging out and sailing with you all again! Thanks to everyone who has been there for me and with me on and off the beach! And a big up to my sponsors!”

Steffi Wahl (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg): “Done! Finished 3rd here in Tenerife and I'm super happy! I’ve had a beautiful time here on the island with loads of sailing and good conditions. Congrats to all the girls, especially for my german Patrik Windsurf International team member Lina Erpenstein for finishing 6th. Watch out for this girl! She has got some airtime in her pocket!”
