Competitors are now registered here at Lac Bay, Bonaire for the first stop on the 2005 PWA Freestyle Tour; the Maduro and Curiels Bank Bonaire PWA King of the Caribbean. As expected, all major players have shown up to claim pole position in this year’s premier freestyle tournament. Local heroes Taty (Starboard/MauiSails) and Tonky Frans (F2/Gaastra) may have the home advantage, but they will need to pull out all the stops to fight off the reigning champ Ricardo Campello (JP/Neil Pryde), last year’s runner up Brazilian samba-man Kauli Seadi (Quatro/Naish) and Venezuela’s Douglas Diaz (Fanatic/North) to name just a few of the potential winners in the men’s competition. Rumour has it that Tonky will reveal his new move the Ca?a Brava, but only time will tell if that will be enough for him to claim victory.

In the women’s field no less than 16 riders have registered for the event, clearly indicating the continuing rise of women in windsurfing, both in numbers and in performance. The Moreno twins (Mistral/North) will be hard to beat as ever, as well as Karin Jaggi (F2/Arrows) and Nayra Alonso (Fanatic/Severne). No doubt local star Femke van der Valk will try her hardest to keep the 2005 Bonaire freestyle crown right here on the island.

With its steady trade-winds, crystal clear waters and laid back atmosphere, it’s no wonder Bonaire is currently rated as one of the world’s best flat-water locations. What better place to kick off the 2005 freestyle tour!

The action kicks off at 09:30 local time tomorrow, so stay tuned to www.pwaworldtour.com for updates throughout the day and check out high.tv for daily highlights of the very best of the action.
