Injury Update with Aleix Sanllehy After Catalonian Forced to Withdraw From Final Contest of 2018

Aleix Sanllehy: "Well as you know I have been waiting until the last day too see if I would be able to compete or not in Sylt after my big injury this summer.

As you know I broke 3 ribs on my right side in Pozo while I was training push-forwards before the event.

I was able to try to compete in Pozo with lot of pain and pills but it was really hard.

After a couple of weeks doctors told me I should rest because my lungs were damaged, but I tried to make it to Tenerife. In Tenerife I tried to sail in the single elimination but in the double I was not able to breath so I couldn’t sail and I had to withdraw from the event.

This last month I have been resting for Sylt and making some rehabilitation but I’m still passing some blood. Last week they made me undergo some further tests and my lungs have a bad infection from the broken ribs, so I have to make a small surgery to clean the infection, so it’s really bad.

They told me I will be ready for Cape Town and I will be able to train hard to prepare for next season, but for the moment its too risky to go and compete in Sylt. The cold weather and the cold winds could make the infection really dangerous, so its too risky for me to compete.

I am so frustrated about this situation, but there is nothing I can do. Now I can only wait and get motivated for next season to keep pushing harder!!

Thank you very much for everything,

Br Aleix."
