All good things come to those who wait, because for the first time since 1996 the PWA returns to the classic world cup location of Guincho, Portugal for what is already branded as the hottest wave World Cup of the year.

From the 15th until the 19th of June, the world’s top male wavesailors will battle it out for €55,000 of prize money on the second wave event of the 2005 PWA world tour. Get ready for some fierce and spectacular competition at the tour’s first European wave event, as PWA riders already on the scene report to be digging deep into their quivers for their smallest sails.

Praia do Guincho is located on the Atlantic coast just north of Portugal’s capital Lisbon. In summertime, Guincho is battered by consistent and strong starboard tack thermal winds often reaching speeds up to 30-40 knots. Combined with the powerful Atlantic swell and a brutal shorebreak, Guincho is one of Europe’s most popular and radical wavespots.

The Guincho Estoril 2005 PWA Wold Cup entry list is equally impressive with no less than 5 Wave World Champions competing. This year’s Jeep Hawaii Pro winner Josh Angulo (US-11) will be making his appearance to fight off his pursuers from the likes of 2004 wave champion Scott McKercher (KA-181, Starboard/ Severne), 13 times overall champ and allround legend Björn Dunkerbeck (E-11, North), 2004 Hawaii Pro winner Jason Polakow (KA-1111, JP/ Neil Pryde) and Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard/ MauiSails).

Then there’s the young generation challenging the status quo in the form of UK powerhouse Robby Swift (K-89, JP/ Neil Pryde), flying Spanjard Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) and Brazil’s Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/ Naish), who will surely be out for revenge after just missing out on the gold on Maui earlier this year.

The list goes on and on, so be sure to check in daily to www.pwaworldtour.com from the 15th of June onwards for event news, pictures and results from the 2005 Estoril Guincho PWA World Cup.
