Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / Duotone / Shamal Sunglasses) recently became PWA Wave World Champion for the 3rd time In his career after coming 3rd at the Mercedes-Benz Sylt PWA Super Grand Slam. The Spaniard has been at the very top of the sport for over a decade and having won is second world title in 3 years we caught up with Victor for the next in your 20 Questions feature.
1. Why are you so passionate about windsurfing?
Freedom in the water, everyday is different, new spots, waves, unique.
2. What quality do you like most in other people?
When they are themselves.
3. What annoys or frustrates you the most?
Long delays waiting for planes.
4. What do you most like in yourself?
I’m easy going.
5. What do you dislike in yourself?
Sometimes I can be a bit too lazy.
6. What has been your best moment on tour?
Lot’s of big moments but my first World Title in 2010 was very special.
7. What has been your worst moment on tour?
When I injured my right foot during the night Super Session on Sylt 5 years ago.
8. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you have given yourself when your career started?
Being more patient in the heats and make the right choice with my equipment.
9. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Be yourself and enjoy every moment.
10. What would be your perfect day?
Any day in the water with friends, wind, waves & good food.
11. Do you have any superstitions?
I like to sleep with my own pillow when I travel but nothing crazy. If I don’t have it I also sleep.
12. Which living person do you most admire?
My parents.
13. What is your greatest fear?
Not being able to windsurf.
14. What is your most treasured possession?
My favourite custom boards
15. If you weren’t a professional windsurfer, what would you like to be?
Professional tennis player.
16. Where is the best place you’ve been?
West Java - Indonesia
17. Where would you most like to go to that you haven’t been to yet?
Fiji
