Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360 / Chopper Fins) suffered a dreaded Lisfranc fracture during the 2018 Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival and after months of rehabilitation it looked as though she was close to returning after videoing herself back on the board. However, in recent weeks it has become apparent that with the screws still in her foot that she won’t be able to compete at the level she wants, so the talented Turk has had to make the tough decision of going under the knife again and delaying her comeback, which could mean the 30-year-old misses the first event of the season in Marignane, France (17th-22nd April).
Lena Erdil on her latest setback: “Planning, organising, rescheduling... when life gives you Lemons... I had to cancel all my Tenerife training plans and am heading back to Istanbul for another operation and yet again more rehab. Sorry guys no action and yet more rehab posts will be in the cards for the next couple of month.
Thank you all for the nice messages. I am well! Just to clarify nothing “new” happened it’s just that after seeing a few more doctors i realised i wasn’t going to be able to compete and push myself properly with the screws still in my foot. So I have decided to have surgery asap to get the screws removed. It has been a hard decision because it will probably mean that I will miss the first event of the 2019 season by the time I have properly rehabbed my foot again... But lets see what the next couple of months bring, my focus will be on healing everything properly before I restart sailing and competing! Thanks to all my sponsors for your continued support, it’s so nice to know you’re behind me with this decision.”
Everyone from the PWA would like to wish Lena all the best with her recovery and hope to see her back on the water soon.
