Blast From The Past

With Julia Pakosz

Next up in our ‘Blast From The Past’ is Julia Pakosz (Severne / Severne Sails), who competed in her very first event last year in Bonaire - where she finished joint 7th. The 24-year-old finished her full season on the world tour in equal 7th.

Hi Julia, can you tell us a bit about your very first windsurf experience? Where were you?

Polish seaside - Hel peninsula.

When was it?

2003/2004? Something around this. I was like 7/8 years old.

Who were you with?

I was with my grandma and we were living in a caravan!

What do you remember from that very first ‘session’?

That I hated wetsuits and I was scared that they were forgetting me, that I was on the water.

Who was your local hero? And why?

I think Tomek Wieczorek. He was one of the first Polish freestyle windsurfers - I met him when I was 17.

What gear were you using?

Severne sails and JP board.

Describe your feeling when you were planing for the first time…

Crazy excited! Asking everyone around afterwards if that was it (planing).

How did you realise you were becoming a professional windsurfer?

I am not sure if I am one. I just love windsurfing and try to do it whenever I can…

Thanks, Julia.
