Marignane PWA World Cup

Update Regarding Cancellation Of The 2020 Marignane PWA World Cup

Dear Friends,

Sadly, amidst a climate of worsening COVID-19 reports across large parts of Europe, the decision has been taken to cancel the 2020 PWA Marignane World Cup which had been scheduled for Early October.

It had been hoped that the event could continue and grant a spectacular world championship showdown, featuring the best racers in the world, in the fantastic slalom conditions at Marignane. However, with a recent surge in cases in France as well as several other European locations, combined with increased restrictions on travel from certain countries, and tighter rules for large scale events, Club Nautique Marignanais, in conjunction with the PWA, have taken the reluctant decision to cancel the event and focus instead on 2021.

Although this is sad news for all concerned, the safety of competitors, crew, the Marignane community and society in general, must come first, and to continue with the event under the current circumstances would not have been a responsible decision for the greater good.

The cancellation of the Marignane World Cup will mean that no PWA World Championship titles will be awarded in 2020, but work is already well underway to ensure that the tour returns to deliver windsurfing at the highest level, better than ever, in 2021 – COVID-19 permitting!

The PWA Youth and Junior World Cup wave contest will still go ahead in Klitmoller from the 13th September and we will continue to bring you news and entertainment from around the windsurfing world through the PWA website and social media channels, to ensure you get your fix of our fantastic sport and the athletes that make it what it is!
