Storm Chase

Maaike Huvermann Attempts to Weather the First Storm to hit the Netherlands in a Few Months

After a few months without a proper storm, the Netherlands finally had a big low pressure weather system track across its shores, which turned into a full on storm chase with winds of around 45 knots. One windsurfer, who was particularly happy with the high winds was Brouwersdam local, and multiple-time Freestyle vice-world champion - Maaike Huvermann (Severne / Severne Sails / Maui Ultra Fins).

Maaike Huvermann: “FINALLY! We had a big storm hitting the Netherlands for the first time in a few months! The wind was forecast to be 25 to 35 knots, but it turned out to be a lot windier than that! We were all stacked on the 3.6m trying to hold on to moves. But it mostly resulted in uncontrolled takeoffs to no space. Felt great to be out on the water, can’t wait for more soon!”
