The 2006 Alacati PWA World Cup / IFCA Slalom World Championships - Preview

Alaçati, a brand new venue for the PWA, becomes the third stop on this years PWA Slalom 42 tour, widening the search for the 2006 PWA Slalom 42 World title, and providing a IFCA Slalom World Champion in Men’s, Ladies, Junior and Masters categories. The event takes place at Alaçati, Turkey, from 31st of July through 5th August during the host nations Surf'n Sound Sport and Music Festival.

The biggest names in windsurf racing will flock to this Mediterranean hotspot with huge honours up for grabs. 2006 Tour leader Antoine Albeau (F192 Starboard / NeilPryde), 2005 PWA World Champions, Micah Buzianis (F2, North Sails), and Bjorn Dunkerbeck (T1 / North Sails) plus world speed record holder Finian Maynard (KV-11 F2 / NeilPryde), are set to stake their claims in the vital, dual title race. They’ll be joined by the very the best in the women’s game, such as 2006 tour leader Karin Jaggi (F2 / North Sails) and former PWA Racing Champion Allison Shreeve (F2, Neil Pryde Sails). Slalom 42, using only production sanctioned equipment, allows competitors to go head to head with a maximum of four sails and two boards each.

Last years event offered full adrenalin and entertainment, proving itself as being one of the best venues of the world for Slalom competition. Crystal clear waters and perfect side- shore winds promise to be the perfect setup for one of the most exciting windsurfing disciplines. This year’s event comes about after successful collaborations through recent years between IFCA and the PWA to manage elite level racing and freestyle tournaments. Now that this unification has proven an undoubted success, the PWA World Tour is honoured to add Alaçati to its Slalom 42 Tour stops in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Germany.
