Day 3: Wennekes Continues to Dominate Whilst Iachino Snatches the Lead From Goyard

For the third consecutive day Bol produced another solid day of Slalom Foil, which saw a change at the top in the men’s with the discard coming into place, whilst defending event champion - Sara Wennekes (Future Fly / Severne Sails) - continues to dominate in the women’s division.

Women’s

Sara Wennekes boats a perfect record after the opening 5 eliminations in Croatia with 4 first places and a second, which she discards. The 26-year-old has been in a league of her own thus far and it looks as though she will be extremely hard to stop from successfully defending her event title.

Behind her, Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / Duotone / LOKEFOIL) climbs into second place - trailing by 4.9 points - after an excellent day, which saw Mortefon become the only other woman to win an elimination this week in Race 4, whilst she claimed a solid second place in Elimination 5. That performance puts Mortefon in control of second place as she has now opened up a 4.3 point advantage over - Blanca Alabau (Starboard / Severne Sails / Starboard Foil), whilst Helle Oppedal (Starboard / Severne Sails) and Delphine Cousin Questel (FMX Racing / S2Maui) are just 2 and 3 points further back as the battle for the podium continues.

Men’s

Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails / Starboard Foil) showed that consistency is key once again as the Italian takes the lead for the first time at the event. Iachino has yet to finish outside the top 4 in the opening 5 races and with Nicolas Goyard (Phantom / Phantom Sails / Phantom Foils) uancharaterically missing out on both Winners’ Finals on Day 3, Iachino moves into a narrow 1.6 point lead over the reigning World Champion.

Enrico Marotti (JP / NeilPryde) moves into third place at the expense of his teammate - Bruno Martini , who slips to 5th, (JP / NeilPryde) after the Croat claimed victory in Elimination 4, whilst Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / Duotone / Chopper Fins / LOKEFOIL) continues to make his comeback after a quarterfinal exit in the opening race of the event. The Frenchman climbs into 4th place by the end of play and only trails Marotti by a point.

Elsewhere, Johan Soe (FMX Racing / Point-7) continues to catch the eye with the 18-year-old rising to 6th place in the overnight rankings, whilst Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / Duotone) breaks into the top 10 for the first time this week, as does Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Severne Sails), who followed up yesterday’s victory in Elimination 4 with a 3rd and 4th place today. Basile Jacquin (FMX Racing / Point-7 / Phantom Foils) loses a little bit of ground as he drops from 5th to 9th after missing out on both Winners’ Finals again.

Day 4 looks to be another windy day in Bol, so there should be more racing coming up, which you can follow live via our Instagram channel: @pwaworldtour
