Cold Hawaii PWA Youth Windsurf World Cup

Day 3: 6 metre waves and 40 knot winds make for a memorable day at Middles

The competition kicked off around midday on Tuesday. The location was a true Danish classic, middles. Middles is the place where the hills are rolling, where nature is as pure as a new dawn, but today it was not only the hills that were rolling, the waves were most definitely also rolling.

The waves reached heights of 6 metres. Some of the athletes decided to take a look at the waves from above by launching themselves into the sky.

Mads Bjørnå estimates they surpassed the 10 metre mark. Imagine jumping from a cliff of 10 metres, now consider doing that in 40 knot winds with a lot of equipment while trying to stomp and plan the board when landing.

A few people stood out, Bjørn Oleson (Fanatic / Severne Sails), from the small not so wavy town of Greve, secured  3rd place today. He just turned 12 and competed in the Under 15 category. Something or someone is brewing. Look out below.

Another outstanding performance was the phenomenal Maria Morales (Goya Windsurfing), she proved why she is not to be reckoned with and secured the 1st place of the Under 20 category for women. A worthy mention is Sol Degrieck (Severne Windsurfing), she proved that she belongs among the best. Not to spill the beans: But she is only 12 years old and is improving by the hour. Watch out.

We also saw a lot of gnar-gnar double rotations, which is quite the view. But nobody went down in flames today because everybody will be sailing tomorrow again. Today was the opportunity for the athletes to see who was in good shape and on top of their game. See you tomorrow for the final part of the competition. May the best surfer bring home the gold.
