Cold Hawaii PWA Youth Windsurf World Cup

Day 4: Maria Morales Navarro & Peter Gobisch Secure Victories in U20 Girl’s & U15 Boy’s respectively

If you pulled up at the former fish powder factory in Hanstholm you could see some smooth sailing today. Due to the drop in the wind, Mother Nature encouraged the sailors to show us some wave riding. cowabunga. The sun also arrived for the show.

Expert, Mads Bjørnå (Fanatic / Duotone), explained that the tactic of the day was to wait for the big sets and not to force it too much. But if you decided to go for a smaller wave you had to pull a rabbit out from the hat to impress the judges. No easy task unless you were the future of the sport, hehe.

Today was another display of dominance from Maria Morales (Goya Windsurfing), who proved why she is the best. The young Spaniard finished numero uno in the Women’s Under 20, but the young Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails) was certainly putting up a fight as she sailed all the way to 3rd place. Phenomenal sailing. Another solid and undoubtedly very inspiring surfer today was Lucia Trivino (Severne / Severne Sails), who controlled the ocean like she was the daughter of Nord. Keep threading the needle. She nailed the 2nd place.

Javier Escribano (Goya Windsurfing) was a true force of nature today in the Boy’s Under 15. Yesterday he got stuck at the bottom of the bracket, but today he redeemed himself and sailed all the way to earn bronze. And that was not due to the sun. The battle for silver and gold was fought between Peter Gobisch (Fanatic / Duotone) and Arthur Van Den Brande (RRD / RRD Sails). Rumour has it that Arthur mis-selected a wave, which Gobisch was already riding, which ruined Arthur’s best score and Peter sealed the deal in the 2nd final heat, which meant that Peter Gobisch shouldn’t dig more for gold. Peter grabbed first place. Arthur Van Den Brande had to accept that he had to eat with silverware tonight. He ended 2nd.

It was a nice and warm summer day, says Mads Bjørnå. See you tomorrow for the last bit of the Boy’s Under 17 and Under 20 ordinary competition. The winds will pick up again and we expect to reach 20 m/s. Be there or be triangular.
