PWA / IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Wave and Slalom World Cup 2024

Day 1: Close, but no cigar on the opening day in Klitmøller, Cold Hawaii, Denmark

The opening day of the 2024 PWA / IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Wave and Slalom World Cup saw an early registration take place followed by the skippers’ meeting for Waves at 9:00am. Spirits were high and the sailors were ready. The wind was picking up, and the eager ones were able to sneak in a warm-up in fun conditions. Unfortunately, the wind didn’t hold, so the proposed start had to be postponed.

Day one then turned into a waiting game with bright sunshine, lots of table tennis, and socialising. Meanwhile, equipment was checked and prepped. Possible starts were postponed several times, and by 6:00pm, head judge Emilio called it off for the day before setting a potential start time of 11:00am for day 2.

The weather forecast wasn’t great for day 1, and unfortunately, day 2 doesn’t look much better. The hope for the first competable period is for Wednesday with forecasts currently promising really good waves with side-offshore wind, something that could really provide great conditions, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for that.

A huge thanks to the volunteers and, of course, to our sponsors, without whom this wouldn’t be possible: Cafe Hawgus, Emilienborg, Cold Hawaii Games, AutoQ, DIF, DGI, Good Food To Go, and Thisted Bryghus.
