PWA / IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Wave and Slalom World Cup

Day 3: A Fantastic Start to the Day in Cold Hawaii Before the Wind Shifts Onshore and Halts Play

Day three of the 2024  PWA / IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Wave and Slalom World Cup began beautifully in Cold Hawaii with sunshine, stunning waves, and a skippers’ meeting at 9am. Although there was no wind initially, preparations were made in expectation of the promised forecast conditions materialising. By midday, the first windsurfers hit the water, and after a couple of hours, the wind picked up, allowing the first heat to commence.

With 17-minute heats, wave selection was crucial in order to open up scoring potential. The contest was run with 4-man heats with the top two sailors then advancing into the next round. The matchups were Valters Videnieks (Goya Windsurfing) vs Stanislav Bém (Goya Windsurfing) vs Marc Alonso Cámara (F2 / F2Sails) vs Samuele Ferraro (PATRIK / PATRIK). Unfortunately, although the waves were suitable, the wind threw a spanner in the works as it shifted slightly onshore, which led to the contest being postponed and unfortunately the wind remained unstable for the rest of the day.

Wednesday provided a good day overall, though without any decisive competition. We now look forward to Thursday, which not only more waves, but also potentially more favourable offshore winds, which could be crucial. We also remain hopeful for Friday, which is expected to be similar to Thursday. Additionally, we have a coaching camp with Johan Søe (FMX Racing / Point-7) and Marc Paré (Simmer / Simmer Sails) on Friday, which should be fantastic.

The skippers’ meeting has been called for 9:00am (GMT+2) on Thursday.

Once again, a huge thanks to the volunteers and, of course, to our sponsors, without whom this wouldn’t be possible: Cafe Hawgus, Emilienborg, Cold Hawaii Games, AutoQ, DIF, DGI, Good Food To Go, and Thisted Bryghus.
