PWA / IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Wave and Slalom World Cup

Day 7: Racing gets underway in Cold Hawaii as Foil Slalom takes centre stage

The skippers’ meeting was held at 10am on day seven on the 2024 PWA / IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Wave and Slalom World Cup with sailing conditions being checked at both Hanstholm and Klitmøller. After a little bit of debating the decision was made to hold the opening races of the event in Klitmøller with slightly less choppy waters, while there was more wind on the inside. Conditions were still marginal at 7-11 knots, but finally there was enough wind to compete, and with glorious sunshine and balmy temperatures, for Cold Hawaii) it was a great day.

With the course set, the first racing heats of the event got underway at 2pm and saw some great battles across all fleets.

In the opening elimination for the Foil U21’s, Sacha Fortune (Future Fly / Challenger Sails) claimed the opening bullet ahead of fellow Frenchman Matthieu Assorin and Anton Richter (JP / NeilPryde).

Meanwhile in the U17 division, young Dane Gustav Permin claimed top honours in Elimination 1 after seeing off competition from Tycho Smith (Future Fly / NeilPryde) and Bobbi-Lynn de Jong (Starboard / NeilPryde)

The sailors will meet again at 10am (GMT+2) on Monday morning at Surf Club Nasa Klitmøller. The forecast is currently calling for 8-12 knots from the east, which could provide good conditions for more Foil Slalom. See you there.

A huge thanks to the volunteers and, of course, to our sponsors, without whom this wouldn’t be possible: Cafe Hawgus, Emilienborg, Cold Hawaii Games, AutoQ, DIF, DGI, Good Food To Go, and Thisted Bryghus.
