Playa Surf CBbC Hotel Tenerife El Médano Windsurf Grand Slam

Day 2: The forecast changes for the better meaning there’s now a solid chance of racing on Sunday

Sunday is supposedly the day of rest, but thanks to a favourable forecast change, that hopefully won’t be the case now with the promise of moderate to strong winds in the afternoon with the breeze returning to the normal northeasterly trade direction, which should hopefully bring us some competition on Day 3 of the 2025 Playa Sur El Médano Tenerife Windsurf Grand Slam.

Dieter van der Eyken (Severne / Severne Sails), who calls Tenerife home, on the forecast: “I think from tomorrow [Sunday] there’s definitely a good chance. I think for Slalom X, it will be fine tomorrow and for sure Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and I think for waves that they can start doing stuff from Thursday and then it looks good over the weekend.

It actually looks quite strong for next weekend, not super wavy, but I think even on Friday/Saturday I might have to get a 4.0 or even smaller ready because there’s Calima, so the temperature goes up a lot, which can really accelerate the wind here. On the whole, I think it looks good.”

With the forecast improving the Slalom X fleet will have their skippers' meeting at 12pm on Sunday with a first possible start at 13:00 (GMT+1). Meanwhile, the Wave fleets will be given an announcement at 13:00.
