3rd In The World
Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails) broke into the overall top 3 for the first time in her career last year after achieving 3 podiums from the four events completed. After her first winter totally dedicated to training, Mortefon has managed to successfully defend her place on the prestigious overall podium as she claims a decisive 3rd place ahead of Maëlle Guilbaud (Patrik / Loftsails) after producing another very consistent performance. After the completion of the 2018 Viana PWA World Cup - and the Women’s PWA Slalom World Tour - you can read a few of Mortefon’s thoughts below:
Marion Mortefon: “Hi everyone !
The World Cup season 2018 just finished in Viana do Castelo, Portugal from 13th to 20th of June!
After the cancellation of the Turkish World Cup event, for several reasons, the Portuguese event was announced as our final.
Arrived with third place in the annual ranking before the event, I really would like to stay on the podium and give everything for this event!
Viana do Castelo was a first experience for everybody, a wonderful place with extreme high winds for this period!
We did 7 races in various conditions between 25 to 40 knots, it was super exciting and nothing was over before the finish line!
I’m super happy regarding what I did this week, with places between the victory and the 5th place! Points were extremely tight for the podium with some up and down for me, with some falls at the gybe caused by other girls.. I’m super happy about my performance!
Conditions were really incredible, with a thermal wind coming everyday at the same hours and increasing super rapidly during the afternoon. Level was even higher this year, with more and more battles for each place! I’m super happy to be part of this group of slalom girls who are increasing the level step by step every year! I did every race on my smallest gear 5.4m NorthSails and 98l Fanatic, as did the guys, which is already a good performance regarding the difference of weight!
In 2018, I finished again on the overall podium of the PWA in slalom with a 3rd place! My training and everyday efforts are rewarded with climbing again on this box!
The International season is over, but we still have 4 event of the national French championship until the end of 2018, a title is still possible!
