Tenerife PWA World Cup

Day 2: Marc Paré comes out on top of the youth's as the main event remains on hold

There was plenty of hope ahead of the second day of the Tenerife PWA World Cup, but unfortunately conditions never quite materialised enough to get the pro contests underway. Earlier in the day the single elimination of the youth’s contest was completed as Marc Paré (99NoveNove / Simmer / Maui Ultra Fins) managed to come out on top.

The final of the youth’s contest saw Marc Paré lining up against Noah Vocker (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins), Julian Salmonn (Severne) and Alexandre Grand-Guillot (Fanatic / North) as the next generation of wave sailors were given fourteen minutes to show what they could do in relatively light, tricky conditions.

Vocker made the best start to the final as he instantly landed an excellent backloop, before Paré quickly followed suit, whilst Grand-Guillot and Salmonn landed forwards. At this point Salmonn started to take control of the heat as he consistently picked up the best waves and produced fluid turns to earn 6 and 8.5 point wave rides respectively. However, Paré fought back as he landed a better backloop, before linking together the wave of the final to earn 9 points, which consisted of him landing a stylish taka and a backside slash to snatch the victory away from Salmonn, who finished in second place. The podium was completed by Vocker.

The wind continued to tease throughout the day with a large percentage of the fleet being tempted out onto the water at some point, however the wind and wave gods never quite aligned meaning the trials and main events remain on hold. Sailors were released at 5pm and will meet again tomorrow morning for a skippers’ meeting at 9am - with the action commencing from 9:30am. Forecast wise the latest models look fairly similar to today, but hopefully with a bit of luck we’ll see the start of the contest.
