2001 spark7.com Windsurfing World Cup Neusiedler See Day 5
Last night the official riders presentation was held in the big party tent, and it was crowded – very, very crowded. At 10 o ´ clock the organizers had to shut the doors but there were still a thousand people outside waiting for their chance to get in. Inside it was going off!! The crowds went crazy for all the sailors of the 16 countries. And the party after the presentation was insane!
Today some light south-easterly winds greeted the competitors and visitors accompanied with blue skies and warm sunshine. The wind was very gusty and not enough to start the main competition but just right for the Formula J. Kids aged between 9 and 17, who got their chance to show what they can do. First they had a little Race followed by some light wind freestyle. You could see that they and all the visitors really enjoyed it!! Even some of the main competition riders watched that happening and were impressed.

" It`s good that those young guys get the opportunity to do what they love to do and even show it in public. Like this they ´re getting their competition experience very early, which is good for later on. You can see how much they enjoy it although the wind is pretty light - those kids are really having fun!!"
For some time it even looked pretty good for the SPARK7.COM Freestyle Competition itself as the gusts on the outside got stronger. All the judges prepared and went out to the lake with a big boat to check out what was happening. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough to start a competition. Still most of the competitors used the time to get wet:
Another way to get wet was at Quiksilver Splash Pipe Contest. This event got famous over the years and the participants got pretty innovative to win the Quiksilver surprise package. Especially as they heard that they could score most points if they pull down their pants or for girls their shirt. The judges got to see some nice stuff!!!
All visitors – and there were a lot - enjoyed the program which was offered and had a pretty relaxing day at the beach. All in all a very nice, sunny, relaxing weekend. But now it would be time for a change at least for the wind conditions as the competitors really want to have a result for this event!!
Forecast for tomorrow is pretty promising as they call for stronger south-easterly winds and even more for Tuesday. Let’s see what happens, just hope the best for a good competition!
