Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam
Day 4 of the 2018 Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam looked as though it would be a whitewash with light onshore winds to start the day. However, during the mid afternoon the wind switched back to being offshore and there were just enough gusts to sneak through a few more Youth’s heats in the later afternoon / evening to provide some entertainment.
U17s
Lennart Neubauer (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) won the U15s to earn a chance to move into the U17s division and he successfully made it into the older age category final at just 14-years-old - where he would face Corto Dumond in the final.
The New Caledonian had shown his prowess in the double elimination of the men’s draw already - advancing two rounds by defeating Hakon Skörge and most impressively Yegor Popretinskiy (Fanatic / Duotone), but understandable struggled slightly in the light and gusty winds, which gave Neubauer a chance. The young German is certainly one to watch for the future, but although Neubauer pushed Dumond all the way in the light winds, the 16-year-old deservedly won the single elimination by way of a 2:1 decision by landing the bigger and more powerful moves when the right gust arrived.
Takuma Sugi (Tabou / GA Sails) completes the podium ahead of Stefan de Bell.
U20s
Meanwhile, in the under 20s Euginio Marconi (I-99 / Challenger Sails) and Lucas Nebelung (I-99 / Severne).
The forecast for the final day of the Freestyle looks much better, so hopefully the wind will properly kick in and the men’s and women’s double eliminations will be able to be completed in solid conditions. The skippers’ meeting has been called for 10am tomorrow morning with the action commencing from 10:30am (GMT+1) onwards.
