PWA/IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Windsurf World Cup 2023
Day 2 of the 2023 PWA/IWT Cold Hawaii Youth Windsurf World Cup 2023 saw the wind drop to a slightly more manageable 40 knots - paired with clear blue skies and excellent waves on offer at the Fish Factor to provide another solid day of competition.
After the completion of the skippers’ meeting, little time was wasted in beginning with the the Boy’s U20 Double Elimination. Hannes Gobisch (Duotone / Duotone Sails) staged the come back of the double with the young German winning 4 heats on the bounce.
Elsewhere, local boy Tobias Bjørnaa (Duotone / Duotone Sails) booked his place in the final after managing to take down Marlon Maethner, who had finished second in yesterday’s Single Elimination. The final proved to be an extremely tight affair with both sailors sailing excellently and there really was nothing to separate them… that was until Dunkerbeck was told that he would need to land a double forward by his caddy to secure the victory and the 19-year-old promptly delivered to successfully not only defend his Single Elimination crown, but also his Youth World title, while Bjørnaa finishes second in his home event.
As if that wasn’t enough action already the contest quickly switched to the U17 Boy’s division, which saw an incredibly high standard and great action throughout. However, the standout sailor was Carlos Kiefer Quintana (Duotone / Duotone Sails) with the young German stomping a 10-point double forward to deservedly claim the the event title ahead of Leon Maethner (Duotone / Duotone Sails), Ryu Noguchi (Starboard / Severne Sails / Black Project Fins).
